A moral quagmire of a movie. Set in the NATO 1999 bombardment of former Yugoslavia, it film opens with two brothers play-fighting and making plans to play hide-and-seek before the air-raid sirens start. A terrible accident leaves the older brother fighting for his life in a coma, and the younger brother, Milan, finds an American pilot shot down in the forest.
Language barriers aside, the story takes surprising turns and works wonderfully. The storytelling is crisp, clever and doesn't waste a moment with superfluous plot.
The film is effective, well-written and refuses to choose a side. Morality means a lot to a boy, but little to desperate people.
